메디슨/밀워키 개요

오대호의 하나인 미시간호의 서쪽 호반에 위치하고 있는 인구 약 60만명으로 도시로
미국에서 제19위의 도시이다. 1833년경 뉴 잉글랜드 지방으로부터 이주민들이 모여들기 시작해 이후 아일랜드인, 독일인,폴란드인 등의 이주민들이 이 곳에 정착하게 되었다.

현재는 독일계와 폴란드계인들이 도시의 주구성원이 되어있다. 이 이주민들에 의해 전해진 맥주, 소세지, 치즈가 매우 유명하며 두 개의 큰 맥주회사가 이 곳에 있는 등 맥주의 도시로서 세계적으로 널리 알려진 도시가 바로 밀워키이다.
